Brève présentation | MASSTER project nests its intervention in the underexplored involvement of trans disciplinary approach to core developmental areas in SSA – migration and agriculture/rural development and food security. The interconnectedness of the nexus is put forth in the effort to increase capacities and relevance of local actors, and primarily HEIs, in the regional sustainable development. The intervention takes on ECDPM look into migration as key topic in international development cooperation efforts, and the relationship between food security and migration addressing the ‘root causes of migration’ in an attempt to pursuing genuine objectives for food and security (FS) and rural development that may ultimately lead to slowing migration flows. |

Objectif général | MASSTER project helps building capacities of HEIs to actively enable data driven interventions to fully exploit and develop agricultural and migration potential while assisting achievement of several SDGs. |
Objectifs spécifiques | SO.1: To develop, test and accredit continuing education programs (MOOC) in 4 fields including: 1) Agritourism development, 2) Farm management and income generation, 3) Farm management and climate change resilience, 4) Food Value Chain: production and procession targeting students and rural families; SO.2: To support partner HEIs and extension services in Senegal and South Africa to develop intersectoral approach to local communities’ development through the establishment of regional WSA management; SO.3: To build capacity of partner HEIs in Senegal and South Africa to track carrier development of students and graduates and identify and support those with migration potential to prevent a brain-drain and drop-out. |
Résultats attendus | 1) 36 HEI teaching staff will become acquainted with the significance of farm-oriented, competence-based practice in improving relevance of HE and strengthening students’ employability skills (D2.1) 2) 24 HEI teaching and 12 non-teaching staff will acquire knowledge and skills to independently develop and further improve student practice development protocols (D2.5) 3) 300 students in the lifetime of the project will be immediate beneficiaries of newly established practice models (D2.7.1), and additional 150 students will benefit from placements (D2.7.2) 4) 90 farmers and/or farm mangers will be trained to host students as a part of their practice (D2.6) 5) 36 HEI teaching staff will know how to organize farm data collection (D3.2) 6) 36 HEI teaching staff will know how to use modern farm data management software (D3.3) 7) 36 HEIs teaching staff will know how to apply farm data management protocols (D3.3) 8) 6 partner HEIs will receive mentoring support from EU HEIs in implementing farm data management protocols (D3.6) 9) 150 students will develop technical skills to collect and manage farm data (D3.7) 10) 48 HEI teaching staff will know how to use the analysed farm data for the purpose of research and teaching (D3.8) |
